The RX stands for “Road Extra” to reflect the wider range of abilities beyond a more classic styled road bike.

This chassis is designed with increased versatility in mind; when we initially sat down with pen and paper to assemble a design brief, we foresaw rainy weekends, stowed luggage and sunny summer miles. The design brief for the geometry was to inspire rider confidence no matter what the conditions. And it had to have a clean sharp look through the rear end that such style  bikes can often lack.

This bike therefore has a commitment to deliver satisfaction under the broadest of circumstances. After all, we build these bikes in the UK and there is another season’s weather around every corner we ride here. But they still need to look good.

Specifications

  • Versatile “all-rounder” frame design with Reynolds 853 butted lightweight tubing
  • Integrated rack and mudguard mounts in the rear stays
  • Breezer rear dropouts for unmatched stiffness and tidiness
  • Super quality Whisky full carbon fork with hidden mudguard eyelets
  • Rides with 25 or 28mm tyres and guards
  • Chris King headset

Ride and feel

Without the mudguards and rack it is a great-riding endurance and sportive machine. Drop on the guards and a set of 28mm tyres and it will lug you around the worst lanes in the worst weather with the best of attitudes. It will make you smile.

We designed this as a one-stop wonder bike: think of it as a grand tourer – a real GT. It is both sporting and swift with long legs for covering the miles in comfort. The raked fork combines with a slight extension in the wheelbase to induce stable handling, whilst at the rear the longer chainstays also contribute to that sense of solid and friendly handling.

We were keen to deploy breezer dropouts at the back end to improve overall system stiffness and hub/frame interaction. Their clean lines mean it looks clean and racy at the cafe stop, whilst their 3D physical treatment reduces rear end squirm under pedalling load. In short, the complication of building with them is worth every moment when ridden.
